What are the questions asked during a job interview at a temp agency?

Description
An interview at a temp agency is similar to a traditional interview, but with a small difference: it’s like applying to several companies at the same time! Indeed, a temp agency works with various clients, and the consultant seeks to find the job that best matches your profile among all the available opportunities. Pretty convenient, right?
If you are applying for a specific job through an agency, the questions will often be focused on assessing your compatibility with that job. The agency will rely largely on “strict” criteria that must be met for you to be considered for the role:
- Do you have good accessibility to the workplace?
- Are you flexible regarding working hours?
- Do you speak the language required for the job?
- Do you have the necessary skills to use the tools or software specific to the company?
- …
These “strict” criteria are essential elements for the position; they are requirements that you need to meet to be considered for the job.
However, there are also “softer” criteria, which concern useful skills that are not essential but can be developed over time or through experience. For example, interpersonal skills, personal qualities, or specific knowledge that may not be necessary to start but would be a plus.
Since the agency works with several companies, the temp consultant will also ask you more general questions to better understand your profile and expectations:
- When are you available to start?
- What are your main strengths?
- What motivates you in a job?
These questions help the consultant better understand your mindset and priorities, so they can guide you towards the most suitable assignments for you.
